England reach Euro 2020 final after extra-time win over Denmark

England are through to their first major men's final in 55 years after beating Denmark 2-1 in extra time at Euro 2020.

Gareth Southgate's side had to come from behind after Mikkel Damsgaard's stunning free-kick gave Denmark a first-half lead. But Simon Kjaer's own goal drew England level before the break and Harry Kane's extra-time penalty secured the win.

England will now face Italy in the final at Wembley on Sunday.

The Three Lions had the better of the chances in the early stages, with Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling both going close. But it was Denmark who took the lead against the run of play when Damsgaard curled a brilliant free-kick into the top corner.

England hit back quickly, however, when Kjaer turned Bukayo Saka's cross into his own net. The game remained evenly poised until half-time, with both sides having chances to take the lead. But it was England who started the second half strongly, and they should have taken the lead when Sterling was clean through on goal but fired wide.

As the game wore on, it became increasingly clear that England were the more likely side to win. They continued to create chances, but they could not find a way past Kasper Schmeichel in the Denmark goal.

With just minutes remaining, England were awarded a penalty when Sterling was brought down in the box by Joakim Maehle. Kane stepped up to take the spot-kick and made no mistake, sending Schmeichel the wrong way.

The goal sparked wild celebrations among the England players and fans, and the Three Lions held on to secure a famous victory.

England will now face Italy in the final at Wembley on Sunday. It will be their first major men's final since the 1966 World Cup.
